Requirements specified within the Occupational Environmental legislation are very similar to corresponding legislation in the EU countries. To be informed of and conform to Labour Environmental Convention and to the greatest possible degree to the various EU-directives, the Faroes are represented in the work group commissioned by the Nordic Council (the Occupational Environmental Committee).
The Occupational Safety and Health office has good working relations with foreign institutions, especially in Denmark, e.g. the Labour Environment institution, Force Institution etc.
All companies and working areas, and subsequently all work performed at such areas, shall be executed according to the terms and conditions specified in the legislation governing all labour. Before starting work, however, no certification of the labour environment is necessary.
Approval of machinery, cranes and other technical equipment
When machinery, cranes and other technical equipment is used, all such equipment must be approved by the Office for Occupational Safety and Health. To receive such approval, all machinery etc. must comply with requirements specified in the EU Machine Directive and be CE- stamped.
Explosives
The Occupational Safety and Health office administers legislation and other regulations governing explosives in conjunction with the Police. The Police issue permission to purchase/use explosives, while the supervision/control of produce/import and handling/storage of explosives lies with the Occupational Safety and Health office.
Vessels and marine equipment and work
Regarding vessels and marine equipment or work generally executed on board the vessel while at berth, and loading and unloading conditions must comply with demands determined within the Occupational Environmental legislation.
